09:57 am - What;s my Name?
Wow, ok haven’t posted anything in a while. First of all I’m doing well, for those who might be wondering. Recently I posted a question to myself, and I’ve been debating about it for quite some time now. I think I might need help in making my decision based on the consequences of such a change. Well let me start by saying that it came up as I was filling out my citizenship papers… yes I am finally sending the papers that I should have sent 7 years ago, but I’ve been a permanent resident, so didn’t really see a urgency to it. In any case, well within the document, there is a section for legally changing your name. I’m not going to do anything drastic like “Henry Danger” or anything like that. But It is not a change is more of a switch back, it will be adding my mom’s last name to the end of my dad’s last name. That is the way it was when I was in Peru, I was born with 4 names Henry Omar M….. L….. (Not posting my last names on cyberspace) but to make it work in this country I would add the hyphen (-) in between my current last name, and my mom’s family name. The problem is that both last names are long and not common. My father’s last name is supposed to be French (I say supposed to, because I don’t know the history of it), and my mom’s last name is Italian. For those who know me, you already know that my last name is hard to spell and pronounce, so with this change I will be making things twice as hard for me and for my future family (whenever that would be). This will change my identity forever, and also the identity of those who I will leave behind, in other words the legacy I will leave after I leave this world. Wow that is kinda freaky to think about.
Well questions I have are:
If I change (add to) my last name to read: M…………-L…………
Would I need to change/update papers such as Title of my condo?
Call all my lenders such as Mortgage companies, Auto, Student loan, etc, etc?
Would people have a harder time finding me, if say an old friend would try to contact me?
Would my good credit history be affected?
Would I have to change my signature to reflect the change?
Would my future wife take both last names?
Would my kid(s) take both last names?
Would that add to my mystique, and Latin flavor?
Would Telemarketers be annoyed? (That along is a good reason to do it)
Don’t know let me know what your thoughts are.
Thanks,

01:12 am - Fun, Parties, and New Car...
Weekend started on Thursday, and was a blast...
Thursday I went to see the Corcoran Senior show... which, sorry but the quality of work/design/concept/craftsmanship in the design department keeps decreasing every year. It is sad to see that when I attend this shows I find myself looking at work that is not as striking as it should be. This type of shows are the ones where the students have the chance to shine, and show professionals like myself that they are ready to go and be creative without limits or barriers. In the real world you have clients, budget, audience, market, constrains, taste, opinions, etc, etc, etc... In the senior show your professor, your fellow designers, and you, are the audience; it should be crazy, wild, creative, fun, without budget limitations. If my senior project would have been mass produced, that would have cost a lot of money, because of the unique format, that still 5 years later no one has dare to produce.
Wow I didn't intend to get into all that...anyways I met up with my friend Kevin, and some other peeps. We went to cafe Asia, which is awesome...definitely adding it to my list of good restaurants. Chilled and had some drinks that night until about midnight.
Friday, I went to Jenny's house warming party, Jenny is from my Capoeira school. Met a bunch of cool peeps there. After that some members of my 48hr film team and I went to Marx cafe for some drinks. It was cool.
Saturday, My brother and I went car shopping and both of us got new cars. He upgraded to the LE version of my previous car. And I wanted a sporty two door car. Well let me tell you what I got in the way my niece tells me her secrets... for example, she goes "I can't tell you where I'm going; it is a secret" and I say "oh, really"... she says: "yes, but the place I'm going starts with the Letter "z" and ends with "o.o." then I reply "ah, ok I won't tell anyone that you are going to the zoo" she replies "OH, How do you know I'm going to the zoo" hehehehhe...it is super funny and cute.
Anyways so In the same fashion, the car I got starts with the letters "AC" and ends in "URA" and the model starts with "R" and ends with "SX" hehehehe...yeah so there is no way you will figure the kind of car I just got. hehehe...
After the purchase my bro, Antonio, Vadim and I met up and grabbed some dinner and then I drove like 120 miles or so to Aaron and Stacey's House warming party... got there so late that everyone was gone by the time I arrived, but I was happy to see their new house, and happy I got to take my new toy for a ride. On the first day, I put about 280 miles or so and got it up to 80-90 and felt extremely nice and smooth. Yeah gonna keep enjoying my new toy; it is a sexy and sweet ride.
Sunday, hmm just chilled with Lisa and my bro.

Ok, so I heard it first last week on Elliott in the Morning, and again today. This is crazy enough that it is totally screaming my name. Redbull FlugTag, is a contest on crazy human powered flying machines…So this is perfect for both the Engineering and the creative great minds that I know (this is screaming your name too
fractalwoman). So not sure if anyone is up for it or not, but either way let me know. I am definitely interested if I can get some crazy peeps involved here. And if not, I guess whoever wants to go and watch others fly or drown in the harbor with me then let me know. It seems like it would be tons of fun for participants and spectators alike.

05:41 pm - Yet another endurance test for me and for a good cause!! (Army Ten-Miler Marathon)
Yes, two days ago I signed up for my first marathon ever, The Army Ten-Miler. I got an email about it, and I said to myself “I’m in”. This will be another event where I push my body to the max. A few weeks ago I completed my first endurance/stamina test (well the first one done for a good cause, I’m not counting the ones for pleasure ;)) I participated and stayed within the Roda-thon (Capoeira Marathon), for the full eight hours in order to raise money for our school. It was a ton of fun, and I was glad to do it.
The Army Ten-Miler is definitely a bit more intense and might require a bit more endurance and effort from me. I have never being part of a marathon, and I don’t run frequently. So I have till October 8th, to get my body to where it needs to be for a marathon. Having this in my mind and seeing how nice it was yesterday. As soon as I got home, at 7:30pm with plenty of sun light; I decided to change into my capoeira pants, t-shirt, and black comfy shoes. I went out, started running non-stop for 50 minutes and I believed I cover about 4-5 miles. So for my first time running in like forever… 4 miles in 50 minutes is not bad at all. I was definitely tired and my legs were and still killing me now. But I felt that if I was able to do that out of the blue, I will be just fine by the time the marathon comes around.
I signed up for the marathon as part of a team “Team BRTRC2006#1” this team is open to BRTRC workers, family and friends. So if any of you reading this would like to join me and my team in this endeavor, please let me know. Maybe we can train together, and kick some butt in this marathon. Registration is $48.10, and all proceeds from the Army Ten-Miler go to Morale, Welfare, & Recreation programs for soldiers and soldier families.
If you wish not to join me, well just cheer for me if you could… :)
I’ll let you all know what my time ends-up being after the race.
Happy Easter Everyone!!!

12:33 pm - Show and Tell time, my project of the Year!!
As I mentioned before, one of my very good friends, Italo is getting married this summer. I grew up with him in Peru; you may recall a post from February talking about it in more detail. We are beach boys, and of course he proposed to Erica at the beach. The concept was clear from the beginning; we needed to stick to a beach theme. I came up with the message in a bottle idea, but I actually found out that it isn’t a new concept for weddings. I found out that you can actually order those, but still they don’t have my touch and they can look cheesy. But before seeing the mayor cheese that is available, I had a vision and you can see pictures of it now. I am still waiting on my two custom made wooden crates to arrive. You can see one in the first picture; that one didn’t meet my specific directions (crate needs to open and sit horizontally), so I will get two more soon. Originally I wanted all invites to arrive in wooden crates, but the cost of those crates plus shipping for 70-150 people… yeah it is up there. Italo and Erica don’t know that I am still ordering two crates; I want to make a special one for them to keep. I will present that to them either at the wedding or prior to it. I had tons of fun with this project. If I went all out for my friend’s wedding, can you imagine what I’ll do for my own (whenever that may be,hahaha). After doing this and the photo shoot I did (about three weeks ago) for my next painting; I have realized that I need to invest on lights and other photo equipment.
Let me know what your thoughts are, feedback and criticism on my work always welcome. :)

05:37 pm - Long Weekend… :)
Ok, so my weekend started on Thursday night. I was invited to a “happy hour” in celebration of a capoeirista friend’s birthday. Ana Maria, she is from Colombia, so she decided to go to Café Citron, which is a pretty cool little place. As the night progresses the tables are taken away; so it goes from a restaurant/coffee house into a dance club. I had the pleasure to meet a few cool South American people, and use my Spanish for a change. I even met this really cool girl, Susan; she is half Argentinean half Peruvian. So there was this sense of automatic connection/camaraderie throughout the entire night. No I didn’t ask for her number, or any of the others, I never do that. And I don’t need to, I’m sure I’ll bump into that group again at some point. The happy hour turned into 11:30pm, so as I was leaving I decided to return some phone calls, and see where my dude friends were at. So since it was on my way home I stopped by Atomics where I met up with friends and had a couple of drinks (one an Amareto Sour, the other a coke), earlier at Café Citron I had a Pisco Sour (Peruvian Brandi and sour mix) bartender probably gave me 90% Pisco, 10% sour mix… she probably thought she was helping me out. So my Thursday night ended at about 1:30am.
Friday: It wasn’t all that great, but I got a funny story. First of all, NEVER EVER get a “Taquito/tornado” from Mobile gas station… I thought it was a 7eleven but it wasn’t…regardless never ever buy those things, they are evil. I bought two, because for some reason I was hungry after having soup for lunch at work. I ate the two taquitos (a chicken and a beef flavor ) Less than a minute later…Well warning this might get nasty… ok Less than a minute later, I had to go and drop off the kids at the local pool. I felt a lot better after that. But ok, this is sick disturbing and funny at the same time. I was in the restroom, you know due to the Taquito… but I was very quiet, relaxing and what not. And I hear someone coming in, it’s ok it is a big restroom with plenty of space for people to do their standard necessities… but I don’t get this… So as I sit there quietly… I hear some weird noise coming from next door, and I had to do the polite fake cough because I believe that one of the well dressed (I knew this based on the shoes), older business people from one of the offices within my building, was beginning to relieve himself. NOOOOO… I don’t want to hear that crap. Ok, I am a dude, and I understand that people need to do their thing…but freaking wait till you are in the comfort of your home and maybe at a later time; not at freaking 2pm in the afternoon. But I guess my fake cough, put a stop to this dude, who probably was trying to have an afternoon relieve… hahaha, sorry dude, but maybe next time you’ll find an empty restroom, or just hold it until you get home.
Well Later that night, went to freaking Baltimore again. We went to Iguana Cantina, in my opinion the mother of all ghetto places. Anyways, yeah didn’t enjoy my time there, because it just wasn’t my environment. A bunch of younger people attend this place, and fights waiting to happen, not my cup of tea.
Saturday: Ok, so Thursday night my friend Angie gives me a call, and says there is this Karaoke contest on Saturday….before she could finish the sentence, I said I’m there. So I was thinking that the contest was going to be held at a local bar in her town, Brunswick. Well the contest was held at a local Firehouse, which is ok, there was still a $1,000 prize for first place. So I picked my fake wife (Lisa) up, and drove to Brunswick to meet up with Angie and her husband. So Angie and I entered the contest, as we sat down in the firehouse we noticed that hmm… we are surrounded by nothing but country folks or as Angie and Lisa referred to as (rednecks) So I was like “wow, we have a 50/50 chance of winning here” We realized that we were going to be way better than them and win, or that they wouldn’t like our music choice and therefore loose based on that. So we had to choose a warm up song, one for the contest, and another one for those who past the first round. So after about 10-15 people singing country songs, hearing things like “I’m a redneck woman”, “Lightning does the work”, “Just got the groceries, on the table” blah, blah, my cow this, my goat that, blah…well you get the point; I had to go up and do my warm up song. As I approached the stage, grab the microphone and said “Well, I’m gonna change things a bit here”… the song begins… Yes, I had to do something totally different “Enter sandman, by Metallica” yeeeha, I mean YEAH! So unlike most of the people before me, I was actually moving, and working the crowd. There were few bikers and younger guys and girls that were digging my song. I actually got compliments and comments from people “Hey it was cool you did Metallica; I like country, but it was nice to hear something different after so many country songs” and “you were cool Dude, our band plays Metallica some times… but we suck, hahaha”. Then Angie got up there after other country songs, she did a classic 80s female rock song, that I can’t recall the name. But it was good, as always she did an excellent job. Then the contest began, I was the second one to go up… At this point people were expecting something different from me… And I had to do it… my song; Guitar and drums started, followed by my scratchy rock and roll voice (by the way my voice was a bit extra scratchy due to this cold that keeps coming back) “Get your motor running…head out on the high way..” yup, Born to be Wild. Chicks and grandmas alike were digging it, because I nailed that song. So then Angie also did her song. We waited to hear who made the top five; the second name they called was mine… Yup I made it into the TOP 5, baby!!. So I had to do a third song. But in between the end of “Born to be wild” and me going up for the third song; Angie and Lisa were lecturing me/ bugging me about something that they did not agreed with. Something personal, choices I make and trends that I seem to possess when dealing with relationships and friendships. Since this was a criticism on my personal choices, it got heated and it hit a cord. I came to the conclusion that I am a lot different from a lot of people my age; and that I just have a different way of looking at things, how I view the world and how much more accepting and open I am with those people that want to be around me.
Not being so happy, I still needed to do my third song to see if I would actually win. And the song I had chosen was “I got you (I feel good) by James brown” it seemed appropriate a few minutes before getting into the argument with my friends. But as a true champ I went up, and I said… “Now, this one is a Fun one” and as the music began I noticed that it wasn’t the version that I wanted, but still did it. Unlike most of the people singing, I was actually performing too… I was dancing and getting the crowd involved, but in the process of doing that I kinda screwed up the song a bit. And I knew it, because after all I wasn’t feeling all that good; but I had to end it with a bang, just for the hell of it and because I told Lisa I would. If you guys have ever seen the video of James Brown you know how he ends the song; yes I did the same. I did the scream followed by the splits. Hahahaha, it was awesome… one dude approached me and said “you had to do the splits didn’t you”, and I said “yeah, as we shook hands”. I had fun with it but yeah didn’t make it to the top three. It is better that way, because we learned that if I would have gotten into the top three; I would’ve had to go up to that place again for the next two weeks. So right after that, we decided to go to Charlestown Race Track and slots for some midnight gambling. I probably wasted, and I repeat wasted like $70 dollars; but I had fun and that is what happens when gambling. I got home at around 5am after dropping Lisa home.
Sunday: I had no clue about the whole change of time, so woke up yeah after only 5-6hrs of sleep. Thinking I had some time before going to see the screen preview of “The Celestine Prophecy” at my Capoeira School with
fractalwoman but then looked at my phone and quickly realized that it was 2pm and I had to leave. So met up with her, and we enjoyed the movie with only about 10 people or so watching the film. We played with the Teddy Bear graham crackers for a bit, although our mamas always told us not to play with our food, hehehe. I thought it was a good movie, but having read the beginning of the book and talking a bit about it afterwards; I realized that the movie did not explain the insights as well as the book.
fractalwoman and I had dinner and chilled for a bit while getting weird looks from people in Rockville that I guess have never seen a couple of friends having dinner outside a restaurant sitting and enjoying the nice day. Overall it was a nice Sunday afternoon. Definitely was nice to see and hang out with
fractalwoman again, so thank you for tagging along. She is one of the few people that actually enjoys driving behind me and seeing me jam to my music making gestures, head-banging and trying to give her a clue of what I am listening to, hehehe. After diner I went straight to Barnes and Nobles to purchase my own copy of “The Celestine Prophecy”.
Went home and decided to do a photo shoot of the Wedding invitations that I just finished for my friend Italo. The photos are for my portfolio, and just to brag and show my friends what I put together for my friend’s wedding. I will post an entry with those pics soon. I have a whole entry that I posted a while back about that project. Pretty happy with it; as this is one of my personal big projects of the year.
After the photo shoot, I met up with my dude friends; we went to Atomic Billiards in DC. I just needed to chill and shoot some pool to end my night and weekend.
